PORTRAIT POPE FRANCISCO by Sofia Gandarias
"Hablad por mis palabras y mi sangre"/P. Neruda (Canto General)

In her own words...

"I wanted to portray Francisco, pilgrim of the world, a world that makes him pain with its inequalities that he knows well...
Francisco has visited the poorest quarters and has suffered with these human beings unfairly treated that have only programmed poverty in their hands...
Francisco questions himself in this portrait and is searching like in the poem of Neruda 'speak for my words and my blood' how to secure these hands that are asking for help.
The red color of the cape symbolizes the blood of the Christendom martyrs. The painting has in the right sleeve a collage with the poem of Pablo Neruda.
I painted this portrait with admiration, respect and plenty of thankfulness to Pope Francisco"/Sofia Gandarias/2015
